In short
This site sets no cookies and loads no content from other providers when you visit it. Fonts and images are served from our own server. Videos are only loaded from YouTube when you press play. For simple visitor statistics we use a self-hosted Matomo installation, also without cookies.
Server log files
When you visit the site, the web server processes technically necessary data: IP address, date and time, the address requested, browser and operating system. This is needed to deliver the site and protect it against abuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The data is not combined with other data and is only kept as long as necessary for this purpose.
Visitor statistics (Matomo)
To see how many people visit the site and which links they use, we use Matomo. Matomo runs on our own server, the data does not go to any other provider. Matomo sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Your IP address is shortened before it is stored, so we cannot identify you. We record, for example, pages viewed, time, approximate country of origin, device type, browser, the page you came from, and clicks on links to other sites. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in measuring reach (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
If your browser sends the “Do Not Track” signal, we do not record your visit at all. You can also object at any time, a short message to [email protected] is enough.
Videos (YouTube)
The episodes are embedded in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). Until you press play, you only see a preview image from our server and no request goes to YouTube. Only when you click is a connection to YouTube established. Among other things, your IP address and information about your device and browser are transmitted, and YouTube may use cookies or similar technologies on your device.
The legal basis is your consent, which you give by pressing play (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG). Google may transfer data to the USA on the basis of the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. More in Google’s privacy policy.
Newsletter
If you sign up for the newsletter, we process your email address to send you notices about new episodes and news about the channel. We also store which language version of the site you signed up on, so the emails reach you in your language. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
We use double opt-in: after signing up you receive an email with a link, and only when you click it are you on the list. To be able to prove your sign-up, we store the time of sign-up and confirmation, the IP address used each time and the wording of the consent (Art. 6(1)(c) and (f) GDPR). If you do not confirm, nothing is sent.
The list is stored on our own server in Germany (software: Listmonk). Emails are sent via Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, 17 rue de Salneuve, 75017 Paris, France) as our processor. Brevo processes the data in the EU. We do not track whether you open an email or click links in it.
You can unsubscribe at any time, using the link in every email or with a short message to [email protected]. After that we no longer use your address for the newsletter.
Contact by email
If you email us, we process your address and the content of your message in order to reply (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). Emails to our address are forwarded by Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA) to a mailbox at Google (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). Both may transfer data to the USA on the basis of the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Beyond that we do not pass the data on, and we delete it once the request has been dealt with and no retention obligations apply.
Links to other sites
The site may link to other providers, such as YouTube. Only when you click such a link do you leave this site. From then on, the privacy policy of that provider applies.
Your rights
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
